Warrington HEMA is a martial arts club in Warrington, Cheshire studying Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA), also known as historical fencing.
The clubs main focus is on the Iberian system of La Verdadera Destreza, focused around the use of the single rapier. We wll be drawing upon the use late 16th and 17th centuries texts detailing the use of arms of various kind.
We will also be using other weapons within the club such as the large two handed sword called montante, sword and dagger, sidesword and arming sword & buckler.
At Warrington HEMA we aim to be an inclusive and friendly club where everyone feels welcome and safe to train. Training is done in a safe manner with the use of modern protective gear such as fencing masks.
Warrington HEMA is proud to work with local heritage organisation Norton Priory Museum and together have successfully received Arts Council funding to supply the club with equipment in order to facilitate the clubs mission of getting more people into HEMA and keeping the sword fighting arts alive. It is the hope of Warrington HEMA to work more with Norton Priory and others to help make historical fencing accessible to everyone.
